Daybed/Support System/Trundle
Description

The Mission Daybed - Light Oak features sleek, beautiful lines, and is a clean and crisp addition for a den or guest room. The design of this daybed is versatile, allowing it to match a wide range of bedding ensembles. It will fit with most decorating schemes, too, thanks to classic traditional Mission styling. The subtle arch of the backrest and arm rests is a unique element that adds a special touch. This durable design will last your family for years. Made of solid oak finished in rich dark and medium tones, the bed's front legs measure 2.25 in. square. Clearance underneath the bed is 14-16 inches depending on the alignment holes used. The clearance is large enough to store the optional trundle underneath. The recommended weight for either the included support system or optional trundle is 200-250 pounds. Some assembly required. Note: Trundle and mattress are both optional and not included with the basic set. To include, select in the Value Package field.

A trundle is an extra mattress frame stored beneath a daybed, which slides out to provide additional sleeping space when needed. Daybeds.com's optional trundle packages include a metal, pop-up trundle. They can be left in the lowered position or elevated in the pop-up position to align with the primary daybed mattress. The pop-up feature allows the daybed to transform from a twin-size daybed into a king-size bed.

Optional mattress is the Deluxe Medium Support Twin Mattress. Machine tufting and high-performance, 2.0 density foam help retain the mattress shape, and double layers of polyester on top and bottom provide a clean, crisp look. Strong twill fabric holds the tuft of the mattress, while tape edge finishing ensures a proper fit and finish of the mattress cover. The mattress measures 75L x 39W x 8H inches and carries a 10-year warranty.

I use the bed in a small efficiency apartment. The daybed is a good alternative because of the large amount of under-bed storage space. The foundations provided with mattress sets for standard twin beds do nothing more than raise the height of the mattress. I did add a bunky board to comply with the terms of the mattress warranty. It is necessary to replace the bolts supplied by the vendor with bolts of a larger diameter to keep the bed from collapsing with daily use. I also added sleeves to the bolts to allow use of longer bolts for even greater rigidity. I purchased the bed without a mattress and purchased a quality mattress locally. I had been advised that the mattresses available from the daybed vendors are suitable for occasional use.It turns out that the twin-bed mattress is thicker than the normal daybed mattress. It is almost as high as the arms. With the heavier bolts, the bed is very sturdy. It is attractive and fits my decor perfectly. It is good value. [...]

Definitely need two people to put the mattress support into the wooden frame. I used a ratchet to get tight connections. I would definitely recommend an Hillsdale product.

Comments about Hillsdale Mission Daybed-Light Oak:

Easy to assemble, just short a few bolts and nuts but not a problem for someone who has access to replacements. Trundle worked flawlessly from the first try, this impressed me as most other reviews noted it took some time to "break in". We are happy with the purchase, it was as described and will nicely fill the need in our guest room.

Comments about Hillsdale Mission Daybed-Light Oak:

I like the fact that this bed is solid wood. It went together quickly. My only complaint is with the free mattress that came with it. It was too small for the bed by about one foot. This required me to buy a mattress which I wasn't expecting. I noticed that they discontinued the free mattress offer, and I can guess why. I didn't buy the trundle option so I can't comment on that feature.
