Daybed, Support system, Trundle (optional), Mattress(es) (optional)
Bedding
Daybeds don't have to be overly romantic, and the clean, simple style of the Hillsdale Providence Metal Daybed is proof. This modern, antique-bronze-finished daybed is truly beautiful with gently curving sides, slender bars, and a contemporary shade. The arm height is 37 inches, and clearance underneath the bed is 14-16 inches, depending on the alignment holes used. The clearance is large enough to store the optional trundle underneath. A daybed support system is included. The recommended weight for either the support system or the optional trundle is 200-250 pounds. Some assembly required. Add a daybed cover for a fresh look any time. Note: Trundle and mattress are both optional and not included with the basic set.
Dimensions:
Optional mattress is the Orthopedic Back Aid Mattress. This quality mattress features a Sta-rite quilted cotton/polyester pad and a patented Aerolife bonded cotton pad made with high-performance fibers that extend the life of the mattress. Rolled inner spring coils take the pressure off your back, while a Damask quilted layer on one side enhances your comfort. Twin size measures 75L x 39W x 7.5H inches. Carries a three-year manufacturer's warranty.
A trundle is an extra mattress frame stored beneath a daybed, which slides out to provide additional sleeping space when needed. Daybeds.com's optional trundle packages include a metal, pop-up trundle. They can be left in the lowered position or elevated in the pop-up position to align with the primary daybed mattress. The pop-up feature allows the daybed to transform from a twin-size daybed into a king -size bed.

My husband assembled the daybed by himself and it went mostly well. It is exactly what we expected. We have not yet installed the bottom trundle or popup unit, but we are already enjoying it. Our grandson (4 yrs old) slept on it. I love the cover and pillows I ordered. The daybed is a perfect addition to our guest room. Hopefully when we are ready we will install the trundle and popup unit easily. We recommend this daybed unit highly.

I'm sorry to say that the bed pieces arrived in four separate shipments, on different days, with packaging that left much to be desired. In fact, I'm quite surprised that the shipper, FedEx, was willing to accept the responsibility of shipping such poorly packaged items. The link spring piece (on which the mattress rests) was not even in a box; it just had a long piece of cardboard wrapped around each end. The two cardboard boxes that contained the bed frame pieces (sides in one and back in the other) were so thin they had larges holes punctured in them; one hole had been taped up previously.
Inside the boxes, there was no packaging other than three large plastic bags containing each of the frame pieces, some bubble wrap taped around the small balls on the frames, a couple of small box-shaped cardboard pieces that had shifted (not sure where they were intended to go to cushion the frame pieces), and some small pieces of lightweight, very porous styrofoam that had also shifted and almost completely disintegrated into tiny pieces. I didn't even open the mattress box, as I'd already contacted Hayneedle about returning the bed.
Needless to say, the bed frame back was bent, but apparently not during shipping, surprisingly enough. When I removed the bubble wrap around one of the balls, the ball had fairly deep dents in it and the paint was scraped off. In other words, whoever taped on the bubble wrap before shipping knew that the ball was dented and the frame bent, but sent it to me anyway. Plus, the fact that one of the cardboard boxes' large holes, but not all of them, had been taped up is further indication that Hayneedle knew that box and frame were damaged yet sent them anyway.
Overall, the bed was pretty cheaply made, but it was inexpensive; the price was probably appropriate. If it had arrived in good shape, it likely would have served my purposes fine. Furthermore, I do want to say that Hayneedle's customer service people have been friendly, helpful, and efficient. They have sent me FedEx labels to return the bed at their expense--hopefully that will go as they've told me it will. I'm returning the bed pieces with all of the same packaging in which they were sent to me.
Hayneedle: I recommend you take a cue from some other companies that regularly ship daybeds and other furniture. I've virtually furnished a home with their furniture, and everything I've ever ordered has arrived so carefully and solidly packaged that nothing is ever damaged in any way. I chose your company for a daybed because it was less expensive and would arrive more quickly. But sometimes you do get what you pay for!

Comments about Hillsdale Providence Metal Daybed:
We were very pleased with the bed. The color was listed as antique bronze (which is what I wanted)but the picture showed more of a pewter color. It is just the color I was hoping for.

Comments about Hillsdale Providence Metal Daybed:
This is working very well in our guest room. It makes a nice sofa and a nice bed. There is plenty of room underneath for storage, if you don't get the trundle. The finish is just lovely and the style is timeless. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Using it as a sofa in a spare room with lots of pillows banked along back. Great for flopping down to read. Looks much nicer than price would imply. Very pleased.

Comments about Hillsdale Providence Metal Daybed:
We bought this bed for our baby's room as a backup for late night feedings for us and an extra bed for grandma. It was very easy to assemble, the trundle is FANTASTIC, and I like the design. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the construction, but for the money, I think it is OK. Not crazy about the support for the mattress on the actual daybed - it is welded bars in two ladder-like pieces that are screwed together. The mattress sits on the three longer bars, not on any of the "rungs". Seems a little odd.
