When it's time to buy a daybed, these are the basic details that every shopper should know. For more in depth information, here is A Shopper's Guide to Design & Use.
Daybed dimensions and mattress size
Most daybeds are sized to hold a twin mattress (twins measure 39W by 75L), and have dimensions in the range of 40W by 80L. Height measurements generally range from 36 to 48 inches (with the exception of canopy daybeds and similarly tall designs.) Large daybeds are longer rather than wider—typically about 88 to 90 inches.
Our selection also includes full-size daybeds for mattresses measuring 54W by 75L. A small number of daybeds can be purchased in a queen mattress (60W by 80L) size.
Support types
Daybeds don't require a box spring. Instead, they use one of two mattress support types: a link spring or a slat system. Link springs are the more common of the two. They're connected to the daybed's side panels, and function like a box spring. A slat system supports the mattress with wooden slats attached to the bed rails.
Trundles
Though some shoppers prefer a daybed without a trundle, the trundle is one of the daybed's unique benefits. They're convenient and space-efficient in bedrooms and living rooms. Trundles come in three types: sleeping, storage, and pop-up. Sleeping trundles are slide-out beds that double a daybed's sleeping capacity. Storage trundles are under-the-bed storage drawers (two, usually) for holding bed linens and other accessories. Daybeds with pop-up trundles can convert to larger beds (you'll likely want to purchase a create-a-king bed doubling system).
Materials
Wood, metal, wicker, and fabric upholstery are the primary materials used in daybed construction. Wood daybeds offer the appeal of classic hardwood finishes such as walnut, cherry, and mahogany, and the traditional aesthetic of Mission/Shaker design and sleigh bed-style frames. Metal daybeds are more visually ornate, with contemporary scrollwork, finials and spindles, and contemporary geometric motifs. Natural white wicker daybeds provide exquisite authenticity in Victorian-style rooms.
Daybed alternatives
Outdoor daybeds made from all-weather aluminum and resin wicker are gorgeous and highly durable patio accessories. Sectional daybeds can even be used as complete patio seating sets.
Assembly time
The daybeds are typically easy to assemble. With two people, most should require about an hour from unpacking to finish.
"After extensively searching local furniture stores, and the web, your web site offered this particular daybed at the best price by far, not to mention the free shipping and no sales tax. Excellent!"
